La Fabbrica illuminata (for soprano and four-track magnetic tape) is a key work in 20th century music.
Composed by Luigi Nono in 1964 in reaction to a horrific factory accident in Genoa, Italy, the work combines live soprano vocals with a complex web of pre-recorded sounds, spoken, sung and shouted texts.
The interaction between live performance and historical documentation is explosive and emotionally overwhelming.
Juliana Snapper has performed the work in different venues a number of times since 2001.
